Although my own background is in economics and mathematics rather than&nbsp;<strong>engineering<\/strong>, I have spent my career in sectors where&nbsp;<strong>data<\/strong>, strategy, and&nbsp;<strong>innovation<\/strong>&nbsp;dictate our future. Today, leading an&nbsp;<strong>energy-technology<\/strong>&nbsp;company, I see more than ever how essential it is that women have a seat \u2013 and a voice \u2013 where decisions are being made.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This year\u2019s summit underscored something important: Cyprus is changing. Our tech and innovation ecosystem is no longer a distant aspiration. It is a driving force in our economy. And with that growth comes a responsibility to ensure that women are not simply participants in this progress, but co-architects of it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The Conversations We Must Start Having<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What struck me most during the discussions was the willingness of women across&nbsp;<strong>STEM<\/strong>&nbsp;fields to speak honestly about the realities behind their achievements. Many of us have experienced moments of being the only woman in the room. Many have navigated expectations we did not set, and barriers we did not create. But what I witnessed on that Friday was not resignation. It was clarity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1055\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.energyintel.com.cy\/wp-content\/uploads\/the-only-woman-in-the-room.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3382\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.energyintel.com.cy\/wp-content\/uploads\/the-only-woman-in-the-room.webp 1055w, https:\/\/www.energyintel.com.cy\/wp-content\/uploads\/the-only-woman-in-the-room-768x328.webp 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1055px) 100vw, 1055px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is a shared understanding that talent is not what holds women back. Interest is not lacking. Ambition is not lacking. What is lacking is the infrastructure around us:&nbsp;<strong>leadership<\/strong>&nbsp;pathways that are accessible, work cultures that are&nbsp;<strong>sustainable<\/strong>, and support systems that recognise the complexity of modern life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We are not dealing with a \u201cpipeline problem.\u201d We are dealing with a&nbsp;<strong>system design problem<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Why This Matters for Energy and Innovation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the&nbsp;<strong>energy sector,<\/strong>&nbsp;the pace of change is extraordinary. We are modernising&nbsp;<strong>grids<\/strong>, integrating&nbsp;<strong>\u03b1\u03bd\u03b1\u03bd\u03b5\u03ce\u03c3\u03b9\u03bc\u03b5\u03c2<\/strong>, digitalising systems, and rethinking consumption patterns. These transformations demand analytical minds, creative problem-solvers, and diverse perspectives-precisely the strengths that women bring to the table, yet are often underutilised or undervalued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1055\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.energyintel.com.cy\/wp-content\/uploads\/high-skill-talent-sittinig-on-the-sidelines-women-in-stem.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3383\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.energyintel.com.cy\/wp-content\/uploads\/high-skill-talent-sittinig-on-the-sidelines-women-in-stem.webp 1055w, https:\/\/www.energyintel.com.cy\/wp-content\/uploads\/high-skill-talent-sittinig-on-the-sidelines-women-in-stem-768x328.webp 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1055px) 100vw, 1055px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From an economist\u2019s viewpoint, this is more than a diversity discussion. It\u2019s a growth discussion. No economy can afford to leave high-skill talent sitting on the sidelines of&nbsp;<strong>innovation.<\/strong>&nbsp;No country can aspire to&nbsp;<strong>\u03b5\u03bd\u03b5\u03c1\u03b3\u03b5\u03b9\u03b1\u03ba\u03ae \u03b1\u03bd\u03b5\u03be\u03b1\u03c1\u03c4\u03b7\u03c3\u03af\u03b1<\/strong>&nbsp;or digital leadership while operating with half of its potential workforce fully engaged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gender equality is not a social add-on. It is a core competitiveness indicator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Changing the Narrative for the Next Generation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the most powerful insights I took from the summit is how many women entered&nbsp;<strong>STEM<\/strong>&nbsp;simply because they were genuinely drawn to it. Curiosity was the doorway. Passion kept them in the room. What we need to ensure now is that the environments they step into do not push them out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We need girls to grow up believing that a career in&nbsp;<strong>energy<\/strong>, or&nbsp;<strong>tech<\/strong>, or&nbsp;<strong>data science<\/strong>&nbsp;is not exceptional for women. It is normal. We need boys to grow up with that idea too. And we need companies to build workplaces that reflect the world we aspire to create, not the one we inherited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1055\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.energyintel.com.cy\/wp-content\/uploads\/career-in-energy-tech-data-science-STEM.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3384\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.energyintel.com.cy\/wp-content\/uploads\/career-in-energy-tech-data-science-STEM.webp 1055w, https:\/\/www.energyintel.com.cy\/wp-content\/uploads\/career-in-energy-tech-data-science-STEM-768x328.webp 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1055px) 100vw, 1055px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>From Inspiration to Infrastructure<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Inspiration has never been in short supply. What we now need is structure-policies, norms, leadership models, and support systems that allow women not only to succeed, but to stay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This means:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Creating workplaces where burnout is not the cost of high performance<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ensuring flexibility is a standard, not a privilege<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Redesigning leadership pipelines so they reflect talent, not stereotypes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bringing men into the conversation as equal partners in progress<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">None of this is \u201cwomen\u2019s work.\u201d It is societal work. Economic work. Future-shaping work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>A Personal Commitment<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1055\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.energyintel.com.cy\/wp-content\/uploads\/eugenia-herodotou-ceo-energyintel-women-in-stem.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3385\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.energyintel.com.cy\/wp-content\/uploads\/eugenia-herodotou-ceo-energyintel-women-in-stem.webp 1055w, https:\/\/www.energyintel.com.cy\/wp-content\/uploads\/eugenia-herodotou-ceo-energyintel-women-in-stem-768x328.webp 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1055px) 100vw, 1055px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As a&nbsp;<strong>leader<\/strong>&nbsp;in the&nbsp;<strong>energy sector<\/strong>, I understand how critical it is to adapt quickly, strategically, and collaboratively. The same urgency applies to gender equality. We cannot address tomorrow\u2019s challenges with yesterday\u2019s assumptions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For me, participating in this summit was not only an opportunity to share my experience, it was a reminder that&nbsp;<strong>leadership<\/strong>&nbsp;comes with responsibility. I am committed to ensuring that&nbsp;<strong>\u0397 EnergyIntel<\/strong>&nbsp;continues to champion an inclusive, forward-looking approach to&nbsp;<strong>innovation<\/strong>&nbsp;and talent development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Progress does not happen by inertia.
